Shockoe plan in peril as 5 council members oppose

The statements of opposition came just as Mayor Dwight C. Jones asked the council to attend a “comprehensive briefing” on the plan next Thursday, two days after the project is scheduled to come up for council consideration.

In an interview, Samuels said Jones had asked him if he’d be willing to consider a special meeting for Thursday. Samuels said he was checking with his colleagues, but the mayor’s invitation went out before that process was finished.

“I’ll check my calendar,” Samuels said. “But by Thursday it may be a nonissue.”Link
